Developing Creativity among youth

Creativity is a trait that is inherent in all of us, but only a few of us have genuinely honed and developed it. The concept of creativity can be viewed from numerous perspectives and can be defined in various ways. At Little Go Getters, we believe it is the process of generating new, innovative, and practical ideas to solve problems. Whether it is something as significant as social justice or as trivial as deciding what to cook when hungry, going through the process of attempting to solve a problem helps brings out creativity and allows for the opportunity to develop it.

Research indicates that fostering an environment that encourages creativity is the best way to develop it. In their book, “What Color Is Your Parachute? For Teens,” Carol Christen and Richard Bolles discuss the learning pyramid, which suggests that 70% of our learning comes from experience, with 20% from observing others. This underpins the importance of creating an environment fostering young people’s creativity, setting up such an environment where creativity is demonstrated, celebrated, and rewarded, along with having role models who represent youth and can inspire them to be creative and facilitating opportunities for young people to be creative in ways that they feel comfortable with can all contribute to fostering creativity.

At Little Go Getters, we develop inclusive and representative books for local youth in multiple communities. Our picture books are an opportunity for diverse young people to see others being enterprising. Our associated activity books are designed to help foster creativity.
